Interesting conversation with someone in "the know" about the future direction of the sports industry. We pointed out a few years back of the desire of the major brands to totally control the distribution of their product much like 'APPLE" and this is starting to happen and will gain momentum in the next few years.

The companies will "farm" out to favoured groups the latest technology who will in turn become passive competitors to company owned stores.

As a store owner ask your self where will you be in 5 years as the product you able to get will be in the "ordinary quality $170 price point shoe", while company stores and favoured buddies get to retail the top end shoe with little competition.

Will you be able to sell enough shoes in the lower end price point to pay for the exorbitant rent and wages? I doubt it, so you need to take action now, whether the decision is to band together to "parallel import" or to take your losses and quit the industry. We all know the stories of companies pulling high volume selling shoes from long serving customers. Do you think it is going to stop? You're kidding yourself!

Smaller buying groups will start to have less influence until, abracadabra, the independent retailer will no longer there. Any retailer out there concerned for your future, we are happy to talk and show you how you can take control of your future by "PARALLEL IMPORTING".

In SA talk to the pollies and ask if they are across the plans of the shoe companies to eliminate competition. The toothless tiger ACCC will have less teeth in the future if the manufacturers are allowed to get away with it.
